Anything, really. DS is an interesting system, but I'd have to side with Arch if it's a short-lived game. There's no reason for everyone to learn a system (even one as nice as DS can be) for just a two week quick game. Stick with more-or-less tried and true.

I'm in. If we will be including Fimbul in this game, 3.5 would likely be the best, but I am up for anything (given I haven't played either of your systems before).

If we do 3.5, I'd likely bring in something from Tome of Magic. Shadowcaster, Binder, or Truenamer, haven't figured out which. Could have something whipped up quick though.

I'm thinking of a cleric with a background story wich allows me to roleplay and be a newbie at the same time

So we have a Cleric, rogue, and some sort of arcane caster. This leaves the Fighter type as the remaining 'must' for the group.

That leaves Saber, Arch and myself to come up with a character concept. As soon as you get some more detail on the setting and the starting level, as well as if any non-core books are going to be allowed.

The short campaign will take place in my world, dubiously named "Solace" My world is based off of a chain of 21 islands that is mirrored around a large mountain, and the entire chain makes an elliptical shape, that matches the lunar cycle.
The history of my world is vast and very thorough, but i'll assume very few of you know much general lore, and won't tell you so it's easier for you to RP, those of you who wish to be more knowledgeable can ask me personally, because it's quite complex and very very long.

We'll start with you guys not knowing eachother, unless any of you want to have a special relationship with one another (brothers, lovers, i don't care) but either way, anything works for me. Here's the intro for where we'll be starting:

Prirebwyn is a quiet town, used to be a farmer village but has slowly grown a bit larger because of strange rumors and adventurers passing through letting a few pieces of gold slip into the town's shops and inns. Prirebwyn was a small village, with a population of about 100, until about ten years ago without warning it was attacked, and obliterated. Within minutes, a fearsome warrior left no tracks but a single woman alive, when he massacred the townspeople, desecrated the temples, and demolished the buildings. After investigations of a group travelers, it was found that this man was somebody they had encountered in the years past, and they were in fact searching for him at the time [editor's note: this happened in my first campaign, claymored, karlth, dunlop, striker, saber, i think you were all involved...i'm not sure though. Grim was there! remember grim?] . All was lost for the town, and the travelers wasted no time in rebuilding. After a decade, many donations, and dedicated newcomers, the town has been rebuilt. The store, an alchemy shop, where the woman was left alive however has not been touched. It was turned into a monument for the lives destroyed, and the lives lost. In this story however, the town is fine, unmassacred, untouched even. But as you adventurer's approach this town in your travels, you all stumble upon something strange. At first it was an uneasy feeling, then a hunch. Something was off in this town, and your instincts point towards the monument. As you are walking late at night, doing whatever it is you do at that hour, you notice something strange. An odd feeling becomes surfaced when you hear a rough sounding grunt, and then a scream coming from within the closed doors of the monument, the closed doors that were said to have never been opened since the incident. You've heard tales from the taverngoers, but this is quite strange. You decide to take a closer look...

oh, i should probably mention, once you roll you can't switch to point buy. it's a risk, but it makes things cool...besides 5d6 is pretty powerful

Tentatively, I am building off of 28 point buy. If that changes (and it well might), I'll keep you informed, and situate rolling, if necessary.

Basic build: Likely battlefield control. Some healing thrown in for good measure since it both doubles as offensive abilities and will allow the cleric to save their 'speedie healing' for inside battle (I grant fast healing, so it won't help much in combat)

Also, tentatively assuming 19k gold (base for 7th level).
Solace, also getting a Greater Amulet of the Silver Tongue (+10 to truespeak checks), for a cost of 10k gold, slightly over half. Tell me if that will work or not.

If everyone could, keep me informed if you take any templates or the like. My truename DC is based off of CR (HD if another player). Here's the formula (though it doesn't matter to most):
15 + 2 * CR (HD if player)
so... if you have 7 HD, I have to hit a DC 29 truespeak check. That is lowered to 23 if you have 4 HD (with a +3 LA template for instance).

Just so I can keep bookkeeping straight.

I've decided to make this a 30 point buy, instead of 28.

the rolling will be 5d6, discard lowest two dice. you can reroll your stats if the ability mods total to less than +2, and/or you don't have a stat above 15.

also, everyone starts with 19,000GP. You can spend this how you wish on standard items, and I'm going to trust you for the most part, but i'm going to glance over all of your inventories first.

anyways, 3.5 as in 3.5 edition, a funny play that was made because it's not quite a new edition, but a change from 3rd edition. 3rd edition what? Dungeons and Dragons, a D20 system that is probably the most popular out of tabletop roleplaying as far as I know (correct me if i'm wrong). This is the edition that is most commonly referred to when someone says "let's play D&D." this is also the system we'll be using for this game. the PHB (Player's Handbook) does a great job of introducing the game to newbies like yourself, and if you're available, i can send you parts of it.
my AIM screenname is SolaceDisparaged, and you can feel more than welcome to contact me Saturday night, or Sunday. I'll walk you through everything you may need to know. This is definitely a great opportunity for someone like yourself, because it's a short game. My plan is to run this for 10-14 gaming sessions, and if it goes very well, then we may hold onto the characters and continue it at a later time. The concept i have will lead off into another story but can also end when this game ends. I think you should join us because you can learn a lot, as well as meet a lot of the key members of this community!

Any race is fine, but i recommend a fighter or barbarian, because they're easy to play, and frankly you can never be short on fighters and barbarians in a party.

So this game is gonna go for about 2 weeks, every night? I might not be able to play at all... cry If it turns out i cant play or have to break off in the middle, just have the other people find my body mangled in my sleep and build an adventure out of it!

p.s. i have all 3 rulebooks and have been reading about the ranger... Are rangers good ?

Rangers are a bit more complicated than a fighter or a barbarian, but th ey are a solid choice for a new comer into DnD. And I just like the class overall, you'll get a taste of divine magic, and you'll have some nice flavor.
